What is the view of Japanese anime in Japan?
Question by bluedogsdodge: What is the view of Japanese anime in Japan?
Is anime generaliy made for the male audience, or do Japanese women enjoy waching them too?
I would like to know more about how the Japanese people view anime.

Answer by Rabbityama
I think most Japanese DO like anime to an extent. Anime can be cute children’s shows or really vulgar adult programs, as well, so there are a wide range of genres. There are a lot of anime, particularly romance-focused, that Japanese women/females really like, so it’s not just a male thing. Just like in America, a lot of people like cartoons, including boys, girls, adults, children.
However, in Japan, just like in America, people who are obsessive about anime are looked down upon by most other people. These people tend to be viewed as “strange” or “losers”. The “otaku” (as Americans call them) tend not to fit in with many people.
In general, people in Japan like anime (or at least some anime), but the typical Japanese person just likes it for entertainment value and doesn’t take it too seriously.
