Living in midsized cities in the United States can be a great lifestyle choice. It’s easy to get around the cultural downtowns and bustling business districts on foot or for an affordable public transportation price. There is a little taste of everything that one might find in the big city, without the overwhelming amount of people, the dirt, and the congestion and general confusion. In cities like Providence, Rhode Island, for example, students, business people and everyday residents enjoy a great lifestyle with a moderate climate all while living a stone’s throw from beautiful ocean vistas and rolling landscapes. Increasingly, they are right there in the heart of new technologies too. In fact, today many wireless technologies are finding that, for the sheer size (or lack thereof) of some small cities, it’s actually easier to outfit them with certain technologies. A prime example is that of mobile WiMax.
When one tower is all that’s required to provide high speed, wireless internet service to a radius of 30 miles, it means big things for those trying to get high speed internet service out there to the masses. For a fraction of the labor and cost it’s possible to equip entire urban zones with one fast and user friendly service. Eliminating the need for Wi-Fi entirely for those lucky enough to be current users, this service is not to be seen as a replacement for the slower 3g services that are used on cell phones and other portable devices. In fact, these networks are designed not only to replace Wi-Fi usage in public places with its overcrowded cafes and constantly collapsing signals (not to mention the cost) but home internet usage. Imagine combining your home telephone plan with your cellular phone’s plan, and saving money while getting better coverage. This concept is quite similar, except the better coverage includes full time, full speed internet service that can be used under your own roof, in the comfort of any neighborhood caf or restaurant, or anywhere around Providence, Rhode Island that you like.
With more and more students and business people choosing to live downtown than ever before, such internet services will quickly become the standard in high speed broadband. The entire WiMax network was designed as a solution for those on the go, meaning that people who spend a lot of time either at work or on campus only want to pay one low rate to get at home internet too. Whereas small cities were once known for their commuters, with the environmentally conscious out there and the penny pinchers who don’t want to pay for motor vehicles or gasoline, today they are being defined more by their urban populations. Those living in Providence can make the switch to 4g wireless internet right away. Those living in other cities and urban centers of all sizes around the country can look out online to see when this great and exciting new service will be available at home, and at work, and at school, and anywhere else around town they can imagine!
